Memorial services for Stephen Francis Sutton, 50, of Gillette will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Cliff Jacobsen officiating.Cremation has taken place.Mr. Sutton died Tuesday, January. 24, 2006, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper of complications from type 1 diabetes and kidney failure.He was born December. 12, 1955, in San Diego, Calif., to Robert John and Anna Bess (Berret) Sutton. He lived in California until the age of 12. The family then moved to Natchez Miss., where he graduated from Natchez High School in 1973. He attended community college in Natchez for one year.He moved to Colorado in 1975 with his sister, Roberta, and her family. He built log homes with his brother-in-law Bob Crook.He joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years aboard the aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower. He and his crewmates held the record for the most days at sea, 254. He was honorably discharged.After the service, he returned to Louisiana and began working in the oil field industry with off-shore oil rigs.He moved to Gillette in 1983 and worked at various oil field industry supply houses including Sooner Pipe, Safway Supply and The Oilfield Shop.On September. 1, 2000, he married Deb Holbert in Rock Springs. They made their home in Gillette.He was very athletic and played in ?A? league softball for more than 15 years in Gillette. He loved a good, competitive game of foosball, Ping-Pong or golf. He enjoyed traveling, fishing for walleye, including several trips to Canada, and camping in the Big Horns. He also loved to gamble, snow ski and water ski. He cherished his time playing with his dog Pepper and later in life, competing with her for the sun spot in front of the window. He loved to cook and barbecue. His specialty was Cajun food, particularly gumbo.Mr. Sutton is survived by his wife of Gillette; one sister, Roberta Sutton of Greenville N.C.; 12 nieces and nephews; and 11 great-nieces and great-nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents.Memorials and donations may be sent to the Steve Sutton Benefit Fund and sent in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. Fifth St., Gillette, WY 82716.
