Virginia Kay Neether

January 25, 1946 — January 8, 2024

GILLETTE, WY

Mrs. Kay Neether passed away peacefully in the early snowy morning hours of January 8, 2024 with her daughter at her side. Kay’s loving kind spirit is joining her husband, son, brothers, sisters, parents, family, and special friends. Kay was born January 25, 1946 in Baker, Montana to Eulita and Rushmore Hall. One of six children, growing up on a ranch was something she cherished very much. Learning great cooking skills, counting cows with her dad, and many great adventures with her brothers and sisters. After graduating high school, Kay went on to Billings and attended beauty school where she met many lifelong friends. A short time later Kay met a military man, DuWayne Neether, outside of a small bar in Baker. It wasn’t long and they were married. After they got married, they moved to Gillette and had two children, Rick and Kena, joining Keith and DelWayne. Kay worked as a hair stylist early on, babysitting, working with family and friends as a landscaper, helped at the local meat market, and finishing her career at GARF, retiring after 25 years. Kay was very proud of her work at GARF! She loved helping people when they needed her the most.  The job she was proudest of was being a mom, warming Rick’s socks in the oven on cold mornings, always going for a walk around the block with Kena, watching over Keith and DelWayne and their families, and always making sure DuWayne had a lunch packed. Family and friends always kept Mrs. Kay busy! Kay also had a knack for making the family dog fat! After retiring she specialized in yard work and planting flowers. Kay had the most incredible flowers every summer. She liked to keep it a secret how she made them grow so big and beautiful. Sitting outside in her yard with a warm summer breeze always made her smile.  Through her life, she always enjoyed the simple things the most! Taking a ride in the fall to look at the beautiful trees was a yearly occurrence and was looked forward to all year. In her last few months, she enjoyed a beer with Jady, peppermint mochas with Ritchie, and talking on the phone with family and friends! Kay could be ornery, starting fun arguments about how great of a cowgirl she was when she was young! So, in honor of her, this last ride is for you Mom! Kay is preceded in death by son Rick, husband DuWayne and many family and friends. Kay had a very special place in her heart for her brothers and sisters! Leaving behind Howard Hall and family, Winona Moser and family. Joining Jack Hall, Bonnie Smith, and Dave Hall. The endless hours of love and adventure, dedication to family, holidays, phone calls, and time spent together was what Kay cherished the most! Kay will be deeply missed. Especially the phone calls! A special thank you to Dr. Neuwirth and staff, Dr. McDonald and staff, Dr. Sawyers and staff, Dr. Sorenson, Dr. Jordan, all of the hospital staff, the Primrose community, the Legacy, and all the fantastic nurses and receptionists that helped Kay along the way the last few years. Kay got a lot of good years because of all you fine folks. We couldn’t have done it without all of you!  An extra special thank you to Jeff and Shana for furnishing and being part of one last ride for Kay! Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel 210 5th Street, Gillette, WY 82716.
