Terry McGuire

Terry McGuire, age 64, passed away December 10th, 2025. Her last days earthside were spent surrounded by her family sharing old stories, family jokes, and reminiscing. She was born on January 18, 1961 in Michigan to Glen and Margaret (Boak) Pickering, and as one of 14 children, she grew up with no shortage of love and community. In 1981, she married the love of her life, John, and together they continued the family chaos with seven children, and as anyone could imagine, there was never a dull (or quiet) moment in their house. Terry will be most remembered for her servitude, spending countless hours in her church and community, making sure everyone in her life was loved and cared for. Her nurturing spirit carried over into every aspect of her life, including her love of plants, as they were often taking over every open space on her shelves, tables, and counters. She loved sharing them with others, especially her kids, who are suspicious this was a clever way for them to always have her around. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, always showing up to family gatherings with enough food for everyone to have leftovers for days. Her pumpkin pie was unmatched, immensely enjoyed by everyone who had the pleasure of trying it. Terry’s love language was acts of service, and in that she excelled, putting others’ needs before her own and making sure everyone was taken care of. Even in her last moments, she would wake up from rest, asking what she could be doing. She was known for her quiet, unassuming nature, but was never shy to share her opinions or even flip the bird when she felt the situation called for it. In the case of her last few days, she used the latter method to express her displeasure with her overbearing children. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her, but most especially by her family. Her legacy will continue on through her kids and grandkids, who brought her so much joy and of whom she was immeasurably proud.

She is survived by John, her loving husband of 44 years, her children: Jovonna McGuire, Jolene McGuire, Jody and Garret Stephens, John and Shae-Lynn McGuire, Sherry Musk, Tammy Spencer, and Elwood Pickering, her grandchildren: Evie, Breeanna and Kal, Lydia, Ember, Lincoln and Cora, little Wren and Ciri, and her dog Nugget. She also leaves behind her brothers: Albert Pickering and Butch Pickering, and sisters: Glenda Madison, Betty Black, Cathy (Gordon) Wagner, Barb (Walt) Roberge, and many, many nieces and nephews. Terry was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Elwood Pickering, Robert Pickering, Martin Pickering, Sue Smith, Louise and Lorane Pickering, Juliana Pickering, and her closest 4-legged companion, Kricket.
