Steven Wayne Hansen

Steven Wayne Hansen, 73 of Gillette, WY passed away on June 19. 2025 in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born August 23, 1951 in Jackson, WY to Robert and JoDean Hansen. He spent most of his childhood on the Hansen ranch before they moved to California in 1963.

He graduated High School from Orange High in 1970 then joined the Army Reserves serving 7 years.

He met the love of his life, Susan Jane Eddy in February 1973. They were married later that spring. They moved their family to Jackson in 1990 to be closer to his parents.

Steve spent most of his career operating heavy equipment and as a long-haul truck driver. He was able to follow his dream when he completed Detention Officer Basic training in 2001, followed by Peace Officer Basic training in 2002. He enjoyed serving as a DARE officer. He retired from the sheriff’s office in 2008 when he moved to Idaho Falls. He was never one to sit still for long, so he returned to long haul trucking. In 2019 they moved to Gillette, Wyoming to be closer to their grandkids.

He loved to help friends and neighbors. His favorite way to help was by volunteering as an EMS driver and teaching first-aid. He enjoyed being a part of the Elks lodge in Jackson with his father, also serving as exalted ruler. His hobbies include golf, camping, shooting and bowling. He belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

He is survived by his spouse, Susan Hansen, his three daughters: Jennifer Hansen, Robbie McLeland and spouse Nathan McLeland, & Carol Hansen and spouse Kirby Kortum. His grandkids, Steven, Joey, Kaylee, Spencer, Breckin and Charley. His sister Kathy Peters.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and JoDean Hansen and his brother Ralph Hansen.

Viewing will be on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 10:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2309 Allen Ave, Gillette, WY. Funeral Services to follow at 11:00am. Graveside services at Mt Pisgah Cemetery.
