Memorial service for Roy Gillman will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2026 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Cory Young officiating; a gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Fantasy Football, Armchair Quarterback Roy Gillman, of Gillette, Wyoming passed into the arms of Jesus on Monday, June 1, 2026 on a Blue Moon, the symbol of profound release and radical transformation. He was 76 years old. Roy was born to Pat and Arville Gillman on August 23, 1949 in Logan, West Virginia. He later moved to Brookville, PA where he worked his way through high school. He excelled in Wrestling and was the Pennsylvania State 112 lb Champion. Roy graduated from Brookville Area High School in 1967. He moved to Ohio where he worked as an assistant at McKees Engineering. Uncle Sam drafted Roy into the Army in 1969. He served four years during the Vietnam War. He earned several awards as a Marksman and Sharp Shooter and decoded nuclear weapons. Upon his return he headed (West) to Huron College in Huron, South Dakota. While there, he met and married his sweetheart Marilynn Vacura on May 25, 1974 in Jackson, Minnesota. They celebrated 52 years together. In 1976, Roy earned his bachelor’s degrees in Social Work, Law Enforcement, History, and Philosophy. He worked as a college dorm director for two years, then as a Counselor at a youth treatment center (Our Home) in Huron, South Dakota where he encouraged troubled youth to be successful in life. In 1979, Roy earned his master’s degree from SDSU in Brookings, South Dakota. He was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and graduated Cum Laude. He went on to counsel, teach, and coach wrestling at Lake Preston, South Dakota. 1980 brought the family to Gillette, Wyoming to work for the Campbell County school district. Roy was a Social worker and Attendance officer for several schools and finished his career as a Counselor at Sage Valley Junior High. He loved working with young people and helping them be successful. The highlight of his life were his two daughters, Camile and Tiffany, four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He loved living in the beautiful state of Wyoming and sharing its beauty with his family. His hobbies were many. He made lifelong friendships through 35 years of Fantasy Football. He was a huge Steelers and Penn State wrestling fan. Roy enjoyed golf, shooting competitions, fishing on Burbage Lake in Canada, and hunting Red Stag in New Zealand, a once in a lifetime trip. He loved traveling to see family and friends throughout the country. Roy is survived by his wife, Marilynn; his daughter Camile and husband Chris Deppe; grandchildren, Claire, Julia, and Anderson Deppe; Tiffany Humes and partner Kevin Munn, granddaughter Lexi Humes and her father Mark Humes. His mother Pat Hoffman, sister Rebecca Aguado (Joe), brother Tom Gillman (Jacqui), and brother-in-law Guy Vacura, and many nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his brother Dale Gillman, nephew Robbie Wolff, step-dad Vern Hoffman, and Arville Gillman. Bless be the memory of Roy Gillman.
