Rosemary Mapel

Gillette

Rosemary Mapel passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 28, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. She fought a hard battle with cancer. Rose was born August 4, 1936 in Sandoval, IL to Melvin and Myrtle Ellen Kindel. She moved with her family to Gillette, WY in 1950 and by all accounts, her blond beauty was noticed by every guy at Campbell County High School. Roy Mapel won her heart and they were married in 1952. They were married over 71 years, until Roy died in May of 2024. Rose was the office manager at Gillette Broadcasting for many years. After retiring they were down South, where Rose loved the desert and the special friends they made in Yuma, AZ. For the last several years Rose has lived at Primrose Retirement Center where she enjoyed her time with dozens of old and new friends. Many of the staff became her extended family. All of us in Rose’s family extend our gratitude to the amazing staff at Primrose, as well as to Stillwater Hospice and Rose’s private caregivers. Rose requested a private funeral mass for immediate family. All who care to honor her memory are invited to a memorial open house at Primrose at 3:30 pm on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, on what would have been her 90th birthday. Come enjoy light refreshments and share your memories with her family. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bud Kindel, and husband Roy. She is survived by her son, Ray Mapel (wife Karen) of Gillette; daughter Renee Mellinger (husband Greg) of Rio Rancho , New Mexico; beloved sister, Jane White (husband Charlie) of Riverton; grandsons Tyler Swann of CO, Nick (wife Kirsten) of Chicago, IL; grandaughters Tia Knapp of Gillette, Sarah Joseph of Fort Collins, CO and 3 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Rose would prefer you to donate to your local animal shelter or Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
