Robert (Bob) George Hill, born on July 13,1946, in Bismark, ND, has left an indelible mark in the hearts of all who knew him. He passed away peacefully in Gillette an December 31, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of bravery, warmth, and love.
From a young age Bob was raised by his doting grandparents and grew up in the Bismark and Mandan area, where he received a solid education and laid the foundation for a life filled with meaningful experiences. Enlisting in the US Army, he served diligently at Fort Hood, Texas and in Oklahoma as a mechanic and earned recognition as an expert rifle marksman. His service to the country was an early reflection of a life dedicated to duty and care.
Bob’s career began on the front lines as a police officer in Gillette from 1970 to 1974, where he exemplified heroism by entering a burning building in a courageous attempt to save two girls, a feat that earned him a n esteemed award for bravery. After his tenure in law enforcement, he contributed to his skills at Boulvard Supply, Campbell County Road and Bridge, and went on to own Reimer’s Auto and Jack’s Liquor. Bob’s work also spanned the construction field as a truck driver for Friend Construction. He retired in 2009, leaving behind a trail of heartfelt memories and friendships.
Throughout his life, Bob found joy in the simple pleasures, whether it was spending weekends at the lake fishing and camping or teaching his children or grandchildren the art of working on vehicles. He cherished these moments to pass down knowledge and share his passion with the next generation, his love for hobbies such as hunting, cooking, and gardening filled his life with delight and he took immense pride in making jerky and wine—each creation a testament to his dedication and creativity.
Bob was married twice, initially in 1968, when he adopted his first wife’s child and welcomed his first daughter in 1970, his second daughter arrived in 1974. He married his second wife in 2004.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Hill, of Gillette, Wyoming; her daughter Tammy Paulson; brother, Ron (Cathy) Hill of Worland, Wyoming, his son, Frank (Cory) Hill of Glenrock, Wyoming; his daughters, Kori (Marty) Kjorstad, of Sheridan, Wyoming and Bobbi Hill of Gillette, Wyoming, also all of his numerous nieces and nephews and all of his beloved grandchildren, and grandchildren. These family members carry forward the legacy of love and togetherness that Bob installed in each of them.
Though he has departed from this world, Robert George Hill will forever be remembered by his family and friends for his unwavering spirit, his kindness, and his zest for life. He is reunited with those who have gone before him, including his grandparents, parents, brother Dennis Hill, sister Pat Miller, and friends Chip Almen and Tom Gidion. Each of their lives touched by Bob’s warmth will ensure that the stories and memories of this extraordinary map live on.
