Rick Morfeld, a lifelong resident of Gillette, passed away on August 26, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was diagnosed in March 2025 and faced his illness with the same strength and character that defined his life.
In his early years, Rick worked in the food industry. Later, many people came to know him by his smiling face at EZ Auto wash before he moved into the oil industry. Throughout each chapter of his working life, Rick was known for his friendly nature, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others.
Rick was a genuine and caring man who believed in being there for the people around him. He was the kind of friend others could always count on, always willing to lend a hand, offer assistance, or simply be present when someone needed him. His kindness, loyalty, and generosity earned him many lasting friendships throughout his life.
Rick found happiness in the simple things. He loved fishing and could often be found at the Powder River, fishing or searching for interesting rocks to add to his collection. He left no stone unturned, literally! His family often wondered how there could still be any rocks left at his favorite fishing hole.
He also treasured the time he spent with his friends at the Lariat. The conversations, laughter, stories, and friendships shared over coffee were an important and cherished part of his life.
More than anything, Rick will be remembered for the person he was: genuine, dependable, generous, and a true friend. He touched many lives simply by being someone others knew they could count on.
Rick will be deeply missed by his family, his many friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind many wonderful memories.
Rick is survived by his father, Jarald Morfeld; his mother, Deborah Adams; his son, Kayden Nedved; his brothers, Jody (Heidi) Morfeld and William (Angie) Morfeld; his niece, Jennifer Morfeld; his nephews, JD Morfeld and Cash Morfeld; and many aunts and uncles.
Rick was preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer Morfeld, and his grandparents.
