November 25, 1933 — June 12, 2025

Gillette

Richard (Dick) Eugene Morgan was born November 25, 1933, in Gillette, Wyoming to parents Alfreda Myrtle (Deaver) and Norvin Dwight (N.D.) Morgan, and passed away June 12, 2025, at his home south of Gillette, Wyoming surrounded by his children. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from 5-7pm at the Gillette Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at the Wright Baptist Church in Wright, Wyoming on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 11am, to be followed by a luncheon at the church. Burial will take place at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette at 3pm. Dick, also referred to by many of his friends as “Red”, was the 11th of 15 children. While growing up on the family ranch 17 miles south of Gillette, he started herding sheep at a young age with his brother Don. While attending Campbell County High School, he played basketball and graduated in 1953. Dick met his future wife, Patricia (Pat) Freese in Story, Wyoming. They were united in marriage on February 13, 1954, in Sheridan, Wyoming and lived the first year of marriage in a sheep wagon. Dick and Pat had eight children – Cheryl, Colette, Farren, Cynthia, Clayton, Jeffrey, Pamela, and Brian. Pat was a devout Christian and loved her husband dearly. When possible, she would attend church with their children and spent time with the children on her knees praying for his salvation. In February of 1982, Dick and Pat were in an auto accident. Immediately after waking up from surgery, Dick knew he shouldn't have survived the wreck, that God had intervened and had given him a second chance. He became a different man and shared God’s word, the Bible, and Christ’s love every chance that he got. In the fall of 1983, Pat died in an auto accident. Dick was a loving and dedicated husband, remaining faithful to her memory the rest of his days. He got through the first years after losing Pat by continuing to read God’s word, spending time in prayer, along with the Lord providing the love of many family members and friends. Dick was a one-of-a-kind father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, friend and neighbor, always willing to give the last of what he had to those in need. He was a gifted mechanic, welder, butcher, carpenter, and farmer/rancher. In the late 1960’s/early 70’s, he began working for Durham Buffalo Ranch and later became the ranch manager. He continued raising sheep/cattle and driving tractor on the family ranch through the age of 89. He enjoyed hunting with his friends and family, gardening, playing cards, reading and telling others how God has shown him grace and mercy in his life. He spent numerous mornings at Lula Belles Cafe in Gillette, or at cafes in Wright, visiting with his many friends. He looked forward to spending time during the summer at the family cabin in Story, Wyoming where many hours of the game of golf(cards) were played. Sundays when he became unable to attend church, he enjoyed watching David Jeremiah, Hal Lindsay, Charles Stanley, Molly B Polka and Trains/Locomotives on RFD tv. During the last several months of his life, he could often be heard saying Pat’s name and telling her how much he missed her. He looked forward to joining her with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, in Heaven. Preceding him in death was his wife and parents, siblings; Darlene, Lyla, Harriette, Jim, Bill, Jr., John, Janet, Jane, Don, Joanne, Patti, Marshall, and Mary; father-in-law William Freese, Mother-in-law, Myrle Freese, sisters-in-law, Shirley, Gene, Irene, Beverly, Brothers-in-law Bill, Bob, Gordon, granddaughter-Alyssa, grandsons-Levi and Justin, great-grandson Dodge, Son-in-law Hank and several nieces and nephews.
