Memorial service for Pamela McMahon will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2025 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with Father Steven Titus officiating. Pamela K. McMahon (Larson) age 66, of Gillette, WY, died May 15, 2025 at home with her loving family by her side.
Pam was born Feb. 13, 1959 in Armour, SD to Bob and Millie Larson, the third of four children. She enjoyed growing up in a small rural community with her siblings Bev, Chuck and Ron and her many friends. She graduated from Armour High School in 1977 with honors, as class valedictorian.
Pam then went on to begin her dream of becoming a Professional Court Reporter, graduating from the School of Court Reporting in Sioux Falls. She then moved to Gillette, WY in the early 1980’s to start her own business as a freelance reporter and began her lifelong career doing what she loved. Throughout her entire 40-year career, Pam was highly regarded by the many attorneys she worked with, as one of the best and most reliable reporters in the region. Along the way she also met many people who became very close lifelong friends.
Later Pam moved to Rapid City, SD to continue reporting. It was during this time that by chance, on a blind date she met Ted McMahon from Gillette. Ted knew that he had met his angel on earth, and shortly after on Dec. 9, 1989 they were married at Lake Tahoe, CA, and thus began her next lifelong dream of becoming a loving wife and mother. After moving back to Gillette, Pam and Ted were soon blessed with two wonderful children, Breanna and Michael. She continued her freelance reporting career along with raising their two lovely children, with Ted by her side.
Pam loved being a mother more than anything, and always enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, using her mom’s recipes and many of her own. She especially loved family gatherings during the holidays to visit, laugh, play games, and then laugh some more. Pam had a subtle competitive nature and enjoyed games of all kinds, whether it was cards, boardgames or slots, she definitely played to win. Pam and Ted always made their annual trips to Las Vegas, most often bringing their kids too, because she just couldn’t leave them behind.
In 2015, Pam began her new job as an official reporter with the State of Wyo. 6th Judicial District under Judge Nick Deegan and later Judge Stu Healy. This is where she made some of her most prized friends, working with the District Court Agency 140 for the next 9 years, before retiring in 2024. She was also an active member of the Wyo. Professional Court Reporters Assoc. and had many close, caring friends who gave her much support throughout the State. In 2024, Pam was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award and her nameplate now hangs in the halls of the Wyo. Supreme Court building in Cheyenne.
After Pam was diagnosed with stage-4 cancer in early 2024, she was determined to fight this disease to the end, which she did with a vengeance. She fought a hard battle, taking every means possible to extend her life in order to watch her children as they progressed with their own lives. Her children were truly her lifeline who made her want to live as long as she possibly could. Bre and Mic showed much courage and love throughout their mom’s final weeks, staying by her side and caring for her at home with Ted, because this is where she wanted to be in the end.
Pam was preceded in death by both her parents and her grandparents, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins over the years. (Also, her faithful lap companion and protector, Copper)
Pam is survived by her husband Ted, her two loving children, Breanna (Red) Zephier of Rapid City, SD and Michael (Kara) McMahon of Buffalo, WY, (with a grandbaby soon on the way). Also, her sister Bev (Gary) Menning of Armour, SD. and brothers, Chuck (Joey) Larson and Ron (Jena) Larson, both of Sioux Falls, SD. Along with her extended family of in-laws, who accepted Pam as being their own sister, also her many nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends, who she loved and who all loved her so dearly. Pam’s spirit of love and kindness shall remain here with us all, so that we may pass it on to others.
Pam’s family would like to thank all of her Doctors and Nursing Staff at Campbell County Health and Hospice who fought beside her and helped give her hope and loving care during her battle with cancer. She always felt she was in good hands and loved each one of you.
Special thanks to Oncology Doctors: Dr. Pauline Lerma, Stacey Hastreiter, APRN & Dr. Su Furman and all their Staff for doing your very best to help Pam.
Memorial gifts for Pam may be made to benefit Hospice of CCH, St. Matthew's Catholic Church or Pope John Paul II School.
