Memorial service for Nicholas Koss will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 10, 2026 at Walker Funeral Home. The world has lost a most generous and kind man, Nicholas Jason Koss, on Saturday, March 28, 2026, after a brave battle with cancer. He left this world surrounded by his loved ones in his home, remaining hopeful of a cure and faithful in God’s plan through his last days.
Born in Gillette, Wyoming on February 17, 1981, Nic was a protector and supporter throughout his life. His favorite hobbies included tinkering on cars, motorcycles, scooters, and any new technology gadget, including 3D printers and his Tesla. If something wasn’t working right, he wanted to fix it. One day, he was asked why it is that he was fixing the vehicle of a long-time friend, and he replied that he wanted to help because he would hope that someone would help his loved ones if he wasn’t around. His generosity knew no bounds. Nic graduated from Gillette College with his Associate’s degree. He also attended the School of Mines for mechanical engineering. Once his wife became pregnant with his daughter, Calysta, he began working at Peabody as a heavy equipment operator.
Nic repeatedly said that the greatest day of his life was the day that he became a father to his beautiful daughter, Calysta. Callie brought endless joy to Nic with her wit, humor, kindness, and love. Callie enjoyed being silly with her father, and there was no absence of shenanigans and games between them. They both enjoyed board games, basketball, badminton, or corn hole, and making homemade slime! Tales of Callie’s creativity and curiosity were Nic’s favorite stories to share with friends, and we never tired of hearing him express how proud he was of Callie.
Nic lived each day with enthusiasm and gratitude, turning even the mundane moments into special memories with his beloved wife, Jolyn. Their greatest adventure was an “Around the West” scooter trip, The Cannonball, where they traveled 3,931 miles on the open road in eight days, visiting seven states. They navigated this race as they did their entire life together, meeting obstacles with teamwork and celebrating their victories as one. Nic and Jolyn were married in Gillette, Wyoming beneath a sparkling rainbow sky. A fitting beginning to their beautiful love story filled with care and devotion until his last day. The love witnessed between Nic and Jolyn was a deep love, the kind of love that doesn’t disappear.
Nic is survived by his loving wife, Jolyn, his darling daughter, Callie of Gillette, Wyoming, his mother Valerie and stepfather Joe of Gillette, Wyoming, his father Michael and stepmother Terry of Hawthorne, Nevada, his uncle Larry, and his uncle LeRoy and aunt Tammy.
He will be dearly missed and remembered with love. Ride on, Nic, ride on.
