Mary Louise Bundy

Mary Louise Bundy, age 87, of Gillette, joined her heavenly savior on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital. Born Mary Louise Matlack on August 16, 1938 to Ralph and Hazel Matlack in Edmon, Pennsylvania. In 1947, along with her siblings, mother, and grandmother the family joined her father in Recluse, WY by train. The family lived near Recluse in a dirt floor home, while her father worked for the Odekoven family. She attended school in Gillette and rode the bus into town with her siblings. Her and her siblings also had the chore of taking care of the family milk cow, which was more of a pet than livestock. One day her dad got mad at the kids because they weren’t milking the cow like they were supposed to and hauled that cow out to the field, hoping to turn her loose. After kicking her in the butt and turning to walk home, he noticed the cow was following him home. She and her siblings were also known for stealing watermelons from the local neighbors. In high school, she worked as a waitress at the restaurant in Leiter, WY while her mother was the cook. She graduated from Campbell County High School in 1956. She met the love of her life, Marion Bundy, while walking down the street in Gillette and they were married on July 21, 1957. To this union four children were born: David in 1958, Janice in 1960, Thomas in 1961, and Michael in 1963.

Louise spent her working years at the sale barn and Televents company. In the 1970s she started working at the Campbell County Clerk of District Courts office. She then ran for and held office as the Clerk of District court until the end of her term in 2000 when she retired. She has also held membership to Beta Sigma Phi Sorority local chapter for almost 60 years. This is where she met some of her lifelong friends. The sorority sisters were known for laughing, having meetings with crazy costumes and games, selling nuts every year around the holidays, and holding their annual balls. These women meant so very much to her and surrounded her with love and laughter. She was also a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church, often volunteering to bring cookies on Sundays.

Louise was the foundation and matriarch of a large family. This family was known for celebrating and gathering often for holidays, birthdays, and for no reason other than to be together. She loved fishing at the lake, camping with her family, and decorating her home for every holiday and season. All family events happened at Nana Weez’s house. She made wedding cakes for her granddaughter’s weddings and the “super secret” Christmas cookies and breakfast casserole every year. The void she leaves behind is immense and will be felt for a long time in her family and community.

Louise is survived by her brothers, Herb (Brownie) Matlack and Rick Matlack; sister, Gloria (Bob) Dunn; children, Dave (Kimmy) Bundy, Janice Hauber, and Mike (Kris) Bundy; her grandchildren, Hope (Whitney) Lyon, Lynn Sweet, Ashley (Travis) Schonberg, Angel (Joey) Leegaard, Kimberly (Josh) Romo, Derek (Bre) Hauber, and Bradly Bundy; her great-grandchildren, Sydalee, Josiah, Saydee, Alison, Brandon, Ira, Marcus, Olivia, Adelina, Aspen, Alanna, Rowen, and Emma; and numerous other family and friends.

She was preceded in heaven by her husband of 55 years, Marion Bundy; her son, Tom Bundy: parents, Ralph and Hazel Matlack; siblings, Dawn Morel, Constance Travis, Glenda Matlack, and Ed Matlack; and numerous other friends and family.

Memorial Service for Louise Bundy will be held at 2:00 p. m., Thursday, July 16, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Gillette, WY with Pastor Donovan Voigt officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the burial in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery Community Room. Friends and family are welcome.
