Martin ‘Marty’ Gary Welder will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew him. Born on April 25, 1956, in Mobridge, South Dakota, to Michael and Barbara (Zahn) Welder. Marty grew up on the family farm in Glencross, SD. Graduating from Timberlake High School in 1974, he stepped into the world with an adventurous heart ready to embrace every opportunity.
On June 15, 1985, in Grand Island, Nebraska, Marty married the love of his life, Annie Ritter. They made their home in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was a jack of all trades and took on a variety of opportunities while there. Their life together was filled with numerous adventures and cherished moments. Whether cruising down open roads on motorcycles or on a ship on the high seas they enjoyed all the adventures they could.
In 2001, the couple moved to Gillette, where Marty took on the role of haul truck driver at Caballo Mine until his retirement in 2020. Marty enjoyed being closer to family and friends while living in Gillette. He was always up for a gathering, especially if it included good food, strong coffee and a game of dice. You would seldom see Marty without his signature sunglasses.
Marty is survived by: his beloved wife, Annie Welder; his brothers and sisters: Mike (Judy) Welder of Bismarck, ND, Mary (Bob) Talma of Norfolk, NE, Tom (Mary Ann) Welder of Bismarck, ND, Geri Winge of Fort Dodge, IA, Helen (Mark) Salzer of Gillette, WY, Bill (Sue) Welder of Millbank, SD and, Bob Welder of South Shore, SD, along with 17 cherished nieces and nephews and 27 great nieces and nephews.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Barbara, brother, David Welder, brother-in-law Jim Winge, a nephew, Matt Salzer, and one great niece.
Marty departed from this world on June 8, 2025, at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado. While we are heartbroken, we know he will live on in our hearts and through our laughter.
