Marlene Gertrude Westre

August 24, 1936 — February 23, 2019

Funeral service for Marlene Westre age 82, of Rozet, WY will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gillette, WY with Pastor Jared Tucher officiating; interment to follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services also at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Marlene Westre age 82, of Rozet, WY passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Born at home, Marlene Gertrude Westre was the third oldest of seven children and only daughter of Gertrude (Bratt) and Arnold Tesch.  She graduated from Lead High School and pursued a Nursing Degree from St. John's McNamara in Rapid City, SD, graduating valedictorian of her class.  She met Wilford (Bud) Westre on a double date and found her life love.  They married in 1957and their first of three children arrived in 1958.

Marlene worked at St. John's Hospital in Rapid City from 1951 to 1956 and the Homestake Hospital in Deadwood from 1956 to 1961.  Her specialty was critical care which placed her in ER most of the time.

Her devotion and giving peaked after her second child was born.  She decided to stay home and be a homemaker and mother.  She was a fabulous seamstress, gourmet cook, master gardener, plentiful food preserver and veterinarian to family, pets and farm animals.  Marlene was an amazing Mother, Wife and life skill teacher.

Marlene moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1981 after Bud accepted a job with the Alberta Wheat Pool.  With her youngest child in high school, she returned to her beloved nursing graduating top of her class as she refreshed her skills.  Her critical care specialty continued in Unit 92 – Cardiovascular, at Foothills Hospital, Calgary until her retirement in 1996.

She and Bud began building their last home, their dream/retirement home, near Rozet, WY in 1996. In 2001, they moved backed to the United States of America permanently.

Life was always Christ centered for Marlene who dealt with dementia for the last eight years.

Praising God for taking her home are her husband of 61.5 years, Wilford J. Westre of Rozet; son, Jay (Pat) Westre of Kermit, TX; son, Darrel (Lucinda) Westre of Rozet; and daughter Carolyn Trautman (Mike Erickson) of Aberdeen, SD; grandsons, Dean, Byron, Darren, Galen, Seth, Isaac, Thomas, Paul and great-grandchildren, Thea, Lane, Mercedes, Maggie, James, Addison, Bailey, Taylor and Ben, brother, Chuck (Myrna) Tesch of Pine Haven; brother, Arnold (Joanne) Tesch of Yuma, AZ; brother, Bill Tesch of Rapid City; and many precious nieces and nephews.  Marlene loved you all! Celebrating her arrival in heaven are her mother and father!
