Margaret “Peggy” L. Biggerstaff passed away peacefully on April 17, surrounded by her loving family at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, Montana.
Peggy was born on September 19, 1942, in Buffalo, New York, to Henry and Marjorie (Flynn) Cavanaugh. She lived a life defined by dedication, curiosity, and a deep connection to those around her.
Peggy built a long and respected career as a Certified Public Accountant, known for her sharp attention to detail and unwavering professionalism. She approached both her work and her life with confidence and flair—once joking that she dressed to meet the IRS in her “go to hell” hats and intimidator shoes. Always polished and never without her signature lipstick, she balanced professionalism with unmistakable personality. A proper lady with a wicked sense of humor, Peggy had a gift for putting people at ease while keeping them on their toes.
She was an active and devoted member of Daughters of the Nile, P.E.O. International, and the Pioneer Manor Foundation Board, generously giving her time and energy to support her community. Peggy had a special gift for connecting with people—she loved dogs and children, had a soft spot for strays of all kinds, and found great joy in befriending young women, offering wisdom, encouragement, and guidance that left a lasting impact. A skilled bridge player, she also delighted in the camaraderie and strategy of the game.
Peggy formed a wide circle of cherished friends and embraced life with enthusiasm and adventure. Her travels took her far and wide—from treasured trips to Lake Powell to memorable experiences abroad, including kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland, kayaking in New Zealand, and exploring the landscapes of Iceland. Closer to home, she enjoyed shooting sporting clays and pheasants, often accompanied by a loyal Labrador at her side.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold; his children, John James, Donald, and Janet; her parents, Henry and Marjorie; and her infant great-granddaughter, Remedee.
Peggy is survived by her brothers, Michael (Christine) Cavanaugh and Martin Cavanaugh; her son, Steven (Shelly) Crow and grandsons Henry and Jack; her daughter Beth (Michael) McGowan, granddaughter Ryan McGowan (Robbie), great-grandchildren James, Chloe, and Connor, and great-great-grandson Winston, granddaughter Kylee (Clark) Christianson, and great granddaughter Lottie; her daughter Katie Crow-Lahmers and granddaughter Leah; and her daughter PJ (Mike) Burns, grandson Carl, and granddaughters Kaycee and Kayla (Stephen) VanNortrick, great-grandsons Aiden and Oliver; her son Kevin (Tracey) Biggerstaff of Phoenix, Arizona.
Peggy will be remembered for her kindness, humor, integrity, wisdom, and strength. She enriched the lives of many, leaving behind not only a loving family but also countless friends whose lives were better for having known her.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
