Marcia Lee Finnell, born December 27, 1970, in Casper, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at the age of 55. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and beloved educator, Marcia’s life was marked by purpose, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to others.
Marcia dedicated her life to education, not simply as a profession, but as a calling. She believed deeply in the power of learning and the potential within every student entrusted to her care. Throughout her teaching career at St. Mary’s Catholic School, Brady Public School, and later Wright Jr. Sr. High School, she shaped countless young lives with patience, encouragement, and high expectations rooted in genuine care. Her classroom was a place where students felt seen, challenged, and valued.
Beyond the classroom, Marcia’s influence reached far and wide. She served as the Volleyball Coach for Brady Schools, the Class Sponsor for the Class of 2015, and coached Speech and Debate at Wright Jr. Sr. High School. In each role, she poured her heart into mentoring students, teaching them confidence, discipline, teamwork, and the courage to find and use their voices. To her colleagues, she was a trusted friend and an inspiring professional whose enthusiasm and dedication elevated everyone around her.
Outside of her work, Marcia found joy in life’s quieter moments. She loved reading, golfing, bird watching, and nurturing her flower gardens—especially her roses, which reflected her own gentle strength and beauty. These passions offered her peace and renewal, grounding her in gratitude for the world around her.
Marcia is survived by her devoted husband, Troy Finnell; her parents, Jerry and Cheryl Swaim; her sister, Trasa Swaim; her children, Wylee (Cenzi) Knudsen, Ian (Morgan Hecker) Knudsen, Colt Finnell, Cassie Finnell, and Kendra (Tanner) Shoup; and her cherished grandchildren, Sage, Weslee, and Rowan; and also by her dear friends, Amber Goosen, Laurie Hatch, and Tia Britten. Her family was the center of her life, and her love for them was evident in every word and action.
A celebration of Marcia’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Wright Jr. Sr. High School in Wright, Wyoming. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a woman whose life was defined by service, kindness, and love.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to be made in Marcia’s name to benefit Wright Jr. Sr. High School Speech and Debate, continuing her legacy of empowering young voices. Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel, 210 West 5th Street, Gillette, WY 82716.
