Lyle Clyde Baxter

May 13, 1956 — May 1, 2026

Gillette, Wyoming

Lyle “Tuffy” Clyde Baxter was born in Richfield, Utah to Frances Arline McGurn and Clyde Elmer Baxter on May 13, 1956. He passed away peacefully at the age of 69, surrounded by loved ones on Friday, May 1, 2026; in Sundance, Wyoming.

Lyle grew up in California and graduated from Beaumont High School in 1976. He worked various jobs over the years; until he landed in Gillette, Wyoming. Here he found a passion for welding and was hired-on at L&H Industrial in 1994 as a Maintenance Mechanic. Lyle was dedicated to his career and was sad when he retired after 27 years in 2021.

Lyle’s love for hunting and fishing started at an early age and followed him until the end. He enjoyed taking various friends and family into the hills to hunt, especially on horseback. When he wasn’t at work, he was on the go helping anyone that needed a hand, playing darts, bowling, tending to his horses or riding his motorcycle.

Going to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally was something that he looked forward to every year especially with friends. At the Rally, you would see Lyle dressed in his mountain man attire: coyote skin hat, leather vest and moccasins. He loved the attention, especially from the women, but even more so he loved supporting H.O.G. and his local Legion.

He loved his daughter Celena “Brit” and anyone that knew him knew that she was his world. After she got married, his heart grew with more love for each of his grandkids. Lyle enjoyed the simple things in life and being around his girl and her family was all he wanted to do.

He is survived by his daughter Celena (Jason) Sjomeling, grandchildren Levi and Erika Sjomeling of Sturgis, SD; his brothers: Ronnie L. Noble, Paul Michael (Bonnie) Noble, Bradley R. Baxter, Curtis Lee Cooper, Timothy O. Cooper, and sister Mary Frances Cooper; various Nieces, Nephews and great nieces and nephews and an Uncle Oliver Sutton.

Preceded in death by his mother, father, sister Tina Dickerson, paternal and maternal grandparents, and various aunts and uncles.
