Lyla Pierce

Mar 25, 1941 — Oct 20, 2026

Gillette, Wyoming

Lyla Pierce (85) of Gillette passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 20th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Lyla was born March 25th, 1941, in the small town of Richey in Eastern MT. She was the 2nd child to Lyle and Blanche Morey. Raised on a farm south of town she had a wonderful childhood and deeply adored her parents and older brother Chuck.

She was always an extremely intelligent woman and graduated as salutatorian from Richey High School in 1959. After attending dental hygienist school in Minneapolis, MN she returned home when she met a young man while out with friends to whom she said, “I am going to marry that man”, and low and behold she and Thomas Pierce were married September 12, 1960 and were married for 51 years until his passing in December of 2011.

They raised their two children, son Scott and daughter Juli in Glendive, MT. During their lives they also lived in Baker, MT, Fort Riley, KS, Dickinson, ND, and Gillette, WY where they lived for 35 years.

Lyla was a vibrant, stylish, kind, opinionated, smart and loving woman, who left an impact everywhere she went. She stayed busy managing administrative duties for Pierce Oilfield Service and she and Tom enjoyed countless activities like bowling, golfing, fishing, and were avid sports fans attending football games to NASCAR races. But her greatest love of all was being present at their children’s activities and later their grandchildren’s activities.

In addition to her many hobbies, Lyla was a woman of faith and spent 30 years being active at First United Methodist Church where she volunteered as the bookkeeper, led the United Methodist Women and even went on a mission trip.

Happiest when spending time with family, she leaves behind son, Scott Pierce (Melissa), Missoula, MT; daughter, Juli Pierce, Gillette, WY; brother, Chuck (June) Morey, Lake Havasu, AZ.

She was the proud grandma of Kennedy (Ryan) Flink, Spencer Pierce, Cassidy Pierce and fiancé Marcus Kopp, and was lucky to have met her 1st great grandchild, grandson Camden James Flink.

She was reunited in heaven with her husband, parents, and daughter-in-law, Annette.
