Funeral service for Janet Gilliam will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Faith Community Church with Pastor Mark Largent officiating; interment to follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, February 20, 2026 at Gillette Memorial Chapel from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Janet Gwendolyn Gilliam, age 89, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away, February 5, 2026, at the Crook County Medical Service in Sundance, Wyoming. Janet was born on September 16, 1936, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to William (Bill) and Josephine Davis. She was the second child of nine children, Horace, Rosie, Eva, Billie, Howard, Sylvia, Rick, and Cathey. She attended school in Duncan, Oklahoma, and Snyder, Texas. On June 28,1952 she married John David Gilliam in Snyder, Texas and they were married for 72 years. Janet followed John were ever he went to find work to support their growing family. During the first 16 years of their marriage they lived in seven different states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. By the time they moved to Gillette, Wyoming, in 1968 they had six children.

John and the family moved to Gillette in 1968, after a year of working for an oil field company he began his own oil field roustabout and construction company. This was a family business with the boys working in the company and Janet keeping the books. They were in operation for 26 years.

Janet always attended and was involved in the operation of her local Southern Baptist church. She sang in the choir, taught earlier childhood Sunday school classes, and engaged in social activities. In 1978 Janet, John, and 3 other couples established a mission church on the south side of Gillette that eventually became Antelope Valley Church (SBC). After John shut down the company she became the office manager at Antelope Valley Church. She and John joined the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief team, cooking meals after the flood in Grand Forks, North Dakota in the late 90’s and south Texas after Hurricane Rita in the early 2000’s. At the time of her death, she was a member of Faith Community Church in Gillette.

Sewing was her passion from the time she was in high school. She sewed clothing for her children, grandchildren, weddings, home items, even horse coverings. She enjoyed reading, camping, celebrations with family, and traveling. Taking trips to Hawaii and Mexico, and road trips to Canada and Alaska.

Janet was preceded in death by her sister Rosie Jefferies and husband John Gilliam. She is survived by her son Patrick and wife Deborah Gilliam (Greeley, Colorado), Robert and wife Diann Gilliam (Tulsa, Oklahoma), Richard and wife Kelly Gilliam (Gillette, Wyoming), Dale and wife Trici Gilliam (Gillette, Wyoming), Leah Leab and husband Paul (Tulsa, Oklahoma) and Charles and wife Mary Gilliam (Tulsa, Oklahoma). Seven siblings, 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren.
