Jane A. Dowdy

Jane Dowdy, 90, of Upton, WY, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Jane was born January 21, 1936, at her family’s ranch in Crook County, WY, to Hazel (Huckins) and William Ames. On September 14, 1952, she married the love of her life, Mickey Dowdy, Sr., in Sundance, WY.

In the early years of marriage, Jane devoted herself fully to her home and her children, who were always her pride and joy. Later in life, she brought her warmth and work ethic to the Belle Fourche Health Care Center, working first in the kitchen before transitioning to housekeeping. She made many cherished, lifelong friends during her time there. After her retirement, Jane spent her days visiting family and continuing to care for those she loved most. She will be remembered above all for her profound love and care for Jeff, always putting his well-being first and dedicating herself entirely to his health and happiness.

When Mick was alive, the two could often be found fishing together or enjoying their time in Deadwood. Jane was also a passionate quilter whose beautiful creations offered unmistakable comfort to anyone lucky enough to receive one. Beyond her needlework, she took great joy in collecting elegant teapots and delicate porcelain dolls.

Jane is survived by her children, Mick (Heidi) Dowdy of Upton, Susan (Mervyn) Mills of Wright, Lisa Koranda of Wright, and Jeff Dowdy; her grandchildren, Jesse (Brian) McColley of Rozet, JC (Leslie) Dowdy of Gillette, Crystal (Rob) Davis of Rozet, Luke (Genetha) Dowdy of Upton, Jere Updike, Brianna (Linden) Hughes, Erik (Nykeba) Klein, Nick (Katie) Mills, and Avery (Twila) Mills; her sister, Irene Buckmiller; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mick Sr.; her granddaughter, Sonya Duvall; and her grandsons, Larry Updike and Alfred Updike. She was joyfully reunited in heaven with her many sisters, brothers, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless dear friends who went before her.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Upton Greenwood Cemetery. A celebration of her life will follow at the Upton Senior Center.

A memorial bench and bird feeder will be dedicated in Jane's honor at a later date.
