James Wren Berry

Jan 8, 1988 — Aug 27, 2026

Gillette, Wyoming

James Wren Berry, 38, passed away on August 27, 2026. James Wren Berry was born on January 8, 1988, in Gillette, Wyoming.

James was known for his energy, strong work ethic, and the joy he found in creating things with his hands. A third-generation oilfield worker on both sides of his family, hard work was truly in his blood. He took pride in working with his hands and brought determination and heart to all that he did.

James’s loyalty was second to none. He would do anything for anyone and had a large, generous heart. He thrived within his large, loving family and had a remarkable way of making friends feel like family, too. He considered his friends his brothers and sisters, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

His love for his Aunt Chaeli was especially deep. James visited her every Sunday, often bringing dinner or a small something meant simply to make her smile. If he knew he would miss a Sunday, he made sure a friend would stop by—even for just a minute—so she would never go a Sunday without a visitor.

He loved being outdoors and riding his motorcycle—when he wasn’t working on it. For much of his life, James could be seen walking all over Gillette with his best friends, Fil and Gemma. Anyone who knew James knew his dogs. Fil and Gemma were his daily companions for many years and filled his days with joy.

James is survived by his mother, Claudia (Berry) Iacovetto; stepfather, Clay Iacovetto; father, Jimmy Schafer; stepbrothers, Zane Iacovetto and Landon Iacovetto; half-siblings, Jim Schafer, Elisha Schafer, and Brian Hoag; his beloved Aunt Chaeli; Uncle Art; niece, Shyanne; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

His time on this earth was far too short and, in many ways, felt unfinished. We wish that we had understood him and his needs more fully. We will forever miss his contagious smile and endless love. May we carry him forward in our lives by showing even a portion of the depth of loyalty and love that James gave so freely.  Funeral service for James Berry will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Dan Holden officiating.
