Gary Dean Miller

September 29, 1941 — December 9, 2025

Gillette

Gary Dean Miller passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center in Gillette, WY. Gary was born on September 29, 1941, to Frank and Mary (Leavitt) Miller in Cheyenne, WY.

Gary grew up and attended school in Dayton, WY. From an early age, he developed a passion for horses and spent every moment he could horseback with his dad, learning everything he could about horses and cattle. He worked for the Padlock Ranch in Dayton and later became a Wyoming Brand Inspector. Gary also had the opportunity to become a representative for Superior Livestock Auction, a role he continued until his health required him to retire.

He ran a small herd of his own cattle and was always striving to improve its quality. Gary’s love for rodeo brought many new adventures throughout his life. He worked for Pat Byrne as a pickup man for the Byrne rodeos, and his favorite rodeo to work was the Hulett Rodeo. He loved the contestants, the crowd, and even the unpredictable weather.

This passion for rodeo also took Gary and Patty on memorable travels, including two trips to the NFR in Las Vegas and a visit to the Pendleton Round-Up—Gary’s favorite rodeo he ever attended. Gary loved to team rope, and whether he was practicing or competing, he was always happiest on a horse. His motto was simple: if it couldn’t be done on a horse, it probably shouldn’t be done.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Patty, of 52 years; his sons Tyler Miller of Gillette, WY, and Bill (Joyce) McKiney of Veteran, WY; grandchildren Macradee (Bryan) Charles of Tacoma, WA; Mason Miller of Gillette, WY; Kacie (Alan) Turbiville of Camp Crook, SD; Tyler (Kody) McClun of Veteran, WY; and Darcy (Tanner) Hart of Torrington, WY; his sister JoAnn (Allen) Taylor of Dayton, WY; eight great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.

Per Gary’s request, no services will be held. Condolences may be sent in care of Walker Funeral Home 410 S Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY 82716.
