Gary Alan Herdt

Gary Alan Herdt, 58, of Gillette, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at his home on June 23, 2026. Born on June 10, 1968, Gary spent nearly his entire life in the community he loved, leaving only long enough to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force. A graduate of Campbell County High School, Gary carried the spirit of Gillette with him wherever he went.

Gary was a beloved brother, a loyal friend, and the kind of man who never hesitated to step forward when someone needed help. Those who knew him best will remember his unwavering work ethic — a drive that stayed with him even when health challenges in his later years made it difficult for him to work or move the way he wished. His determination, grit, and quiet strength were constants in his life.

He found his greatest peace on the water. Fishing wasn’t just a hobby for Gary; it was a calling. If he could have chosen anywhere to live, it would have been on a boat with a line in the water and the sun on his shoulders. That love of the outdoors, and the calm he found there, will be remembered by all who shared those moments with him.

Funeral services for Gary will be held Monday, June 29, 2026, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Gillette, with the Reverend Doctor Eugene Zeller presiding. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery. A visitation for Gary will be held on Friday, June 26, at Gillette Memorial Chapel from 4-6pm.

Gary’s life was defined by generosity, loyalty, and heart. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his memory will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
