Garth Ross Jacobs, 42, of Gillette, Wyoming, passed away on March 18, 2026. Services are pending and will be posted soon.
Garth was born in Denver, Colorado, on July 15, 1983, raised by his parents, Peri Brenner and Bret Byers. He grew up in Rangely, Colorado, and later moved to Gillette, Wyoming, where he graduated and continued to build his life.
Garth worked for Kissack Oil Field Service, and Citation Gas for many years and, for the past year and a half, worked at Kennedy Oil. He was always known as a hardworking, dependable, and respected man by those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Garth met the love of his life, Chrissy, in 2007. Over the next 19 years, they built a life together rooted in love, loyalty, and partnership. They enjoyed anything that allowed them to be together, finding happiness simply in each other’s presence. His love for Chrissy was unconditional and unwavering—he would have done anything for her, and she and her boys were truly the center of his world.
Garth had a deep passion for the outdoors. He especially loved hiking, camping, and being free in the mountains, where he felt most at peace. He loved the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area and knew it well, once climbing both Cloud Peak and Bomber Mountain in a single day—an astonishing feat by anyone’s measure.
Misty Moon Lake was a favorite, a place that required true grit and a love of hiking to endure the elevation change. Yet never once did he complain.
Garth’s strength was matched by his character. On one occasion, he gave up his own Cloud Peak summit to help a badly injured hiker, stepping in to provide care and safely guide him down to the West Ten Sleep trailhead. It was simply who he was—selfless, capable, and always willing to help others.
He often shared these adventures with his best friend, Mark Wigner creating memories in the mountains that will never be forgotten.
Garth also had a special love for his truck, which he proudly called “Blue.” - it was the other love of his life. He enjoyed working on that ‘84 GMC and took pride in keeping it as perfect as he could, always happy to show it off when it was running just right.
Garth loved his family deeply. He was his nieces’ and nephews’ biggest fan and took every opportunity to show them off. He was a protector to those he loved. He was more than just family, he was a friend, a source of strength, and someone who brought so much love and light into our lives. His absence has left a hole that can never be filled.
Garth is survived by the love of his life, Chrissy Shaw-Meikeljohn; children, Bradly and Jaycee; mother, Peri Brenner (Glen); father, Bret Byers (Ellen); brother, Cody Byers (Melissa); sister, Richelle Byers (Tyson Johnson), and bonus brother Colbie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gordon and Dena Byers, and his maternal grandparents, Chuck and Kay Cudo, as well as his Grandparents Dalvis and Marlene Kendall.
