Florence “Carol” Stephenson, 86

Carol Stephenson, 86, of Newcastle, WY passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023 at the Weston County Manor. Carol was born on June 26, 1937 in Lead, SD.  She was the third of 12 children born to Val and Gertrude (Manning) Delahoyde. Carol met her first husband, Jerry Anderson in Lead, SD and had two children, Teresa and Gary. They lived in various areas and eventually moved to Newcastle, WY. They later divorced, and she met her second husband Henry (Hank) N. Stephenson, M.D. Carol and Hank were married 34 years and were members of Christ the King Lutheran Church. Carol enjoyed being a part of the community. Volunteering and donating to local causes were very important to her. She served as a member on the Weston County Health Services Board of Trustees and she was also a member the “Flowering Fingers Garden Club.” Her thoughtfulness could be seen by small acts of kindness whenever she could contribute. She often baked cookies for the local museum and sang Christmas songs every year to the residents of the manor. You would often find Carol tilling the ground around town or in her own large garden. Her home was always filled with fresh flowers and pictures of her beautiful colorful garden. Her home was her sanctuary and cabin on the hill. Carol leaves behind a daughter, Teresa (John) Dominick of Meridian, ID. She also leaves behind five sisters, Yvonne Derosier, Jeannette Dougherty, Alta Morgan, Valetta Harris, and Lynnette (Dennis) Braun, and four brothers, Jim (Pam), Don (Carol), Dan (Phyllis), and Bruce (Cindy). She also leaves behind six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Plus, close and longtime friends that made up a huge part of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, her son Gary, parents, her brother Tom and a brother in infancy. Per Carol’s request there will be no service and asks that anyone that wishes to do so, please donate to the local humane society, fire department, museum, or Raising Readers of Wyoming. Impacts of Carol’s donations can be seen throughout the community and she wishes for others to continue with their own generosity in supporting worthy causes that benefit so many others.
