Funeral service for Einar Matheson will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2026 at Central Baptist Church; interment with military honors to follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will take place Thursday, January 1, 2026 at Gillette Memorial Chapel from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. Einar Matheson, 78, was born on June 10, 1947, in Gillette Wyoming where he was born and raised. Einar went home to the Lord on December 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of the family and community he faithfully served throughout his life.
Einar was shaped early by his parents, Edward and Leona (Arnce) Matheson, who instilled in him the values of hard work, faith, and a deep care for others. Those lessons never left him. They showed up in how he worked, how he spoke to people, and how he lived his faith every single day.
He attended high school and some college before stepping fully into the life of a mechanic, a calling that fit him perfectly. Cars were more than machines to Einar; they were stories, challenges, and connections. He loved the grease on his hands, the satisfaction of a job done right, and the sound of an engine coming back to life. Winning an NHRA Wally in Denver was one of his proudest moments, not just for the trophy, but for the memories he made during that time; to only a few months ago fulfilling his lifelong dream of racing in an organized drag race in his hometown with friends and family close by.
On February 17, 1971, Einar married Janet Nannemann, the love of his life. Together they built a home full of faith, laughter, and loyalty. He was a devoted husband, a proud father to Steven Paul (Dawn), James Einar, and Michael Patrick (Cari), and a loving grandfather to Madeline, Olivia, Franklin, Leona, Aaila, Kaleb, Libby, Allison, and Averie ~ each one dearly held in his heart.
Einar truly never met a stranger. He welcomed people easily, listened fully, and never judged. He had special respect for Veterans. His faith was steady and sincere. He loved his church, his church family, and the quiet holiness of shared prayer and shared meals. He once said that the best meal he ever had was one that had been “blessed”, because gratitude mattered more to him than abundance.
Loyal, outgoing, and generous, Einar lived a life of service to his family, and community, serving on the American Legion Post 42 Drill Team, his faith, and the work he loved. Though we miss him dearly, we take comfort in knowing he rests in peace, welcomed home by grace, and will be remembered every time an engine turns over, a prayer is whispered, or a table gathers in thanks.
Condolences can be sent in care to Gillette Memorial Chapel at 210 West 5th Street, Gillette, WY 82716. If you feel led to make a donation in Einar’s name to the American Legion Post 42 Drill Team in Gillette Wyoming, the family would appreciate it immensely. Memorials may be sent in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel 210 West 5th Street, Gillette, WY 82716.
