Donna Harris

October 28, 1960 — October 8, 2022

Longtime Gillette resident Donna Harris, 62, sadly passed away in her home Saturday October 8, 2022 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Donna was born September 28, 1960, in Newcastle, WY to Eugene and Sharon (Tate) Sweet. She was the second child, having an older sister, Toni (Sweet) Coggeshall and a younger brother Cecil “Butch” Sweet. The family moved to Gillette in 1969 and it became their permanent home.

On October 6, 1978, Donna married her high school sweetheart and soulmate, Billy Harris. Together they had two children, Amber and Brian. Donna worked at various jobs in Gillette where she made many lifelong friends.

Donna loved to build puzzles and was an avid reader of romance novels. She was known for staying up all night to read a good book, cover to cover. She loved going fishing with her dad and camping with her family. She loved her fur babies as if they were her children. Donna and Billy were huge Minnesota Viking fans and never missed a game. They especially loved traveling to watch them play. Many family vacations included traveling to see the games.

Donna’s true loves though, were her kids and grand babies. Her world revolved around them. Wherever her kids were, Donna was right behind them. Even more so with her grandkids. They were her “sunshine.” She was team mom to numerous baseball and basketball teams. She was known as “Mom” or “Grandma” by countless others in the community. She was always there for anyone who needed anything. Donna was a beautiful and special soul, loved by so many and she will be missed dearly!

Donna is survived by her husband, her father, her siblings, her children, and her grandchildren: Tempest, Brenden, Isabelle, Kayden, Ali, Cailynn, Brantle, Lily, Tate and Dylan, and numerous other extended family and friends. Donna was preceded in death by her mom, Sharon and her nephew, Carl “Bud” Sweet.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Friday, October 21, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church in Gillette at 2:00pm with a time of fellowship following the service. It was Donna’s wish that everyone dresses casually. The family encourages all that attend wear Donna’s favorite color purple. Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Walker Funeral Home 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY 82716. Condolences may also be expressed at www.walkerfuneralgillette.com
