Danny Nelson Voyles August 19, 1964 – July 12, 2026
There are some people whose hearts are simply too big for this world. Danny was one of those people. Danny passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.
On August, 19th, 1964 in Thermopolis, Wyoming Danny was born to Ruth Voyles. He was the youngest of five sisters, all of whom adored their baby brother. On March 14th, 1986 he married Jeri Newby, and together they welcomed three children—Tyler, Scott, and Miranda—who remained the greatest blessings of his life.
A truck driver for most of his life, Danny found peace on the open road. He also spent time working in the mining industry, but no matter where life took him, he was happiest with music playing, working on an old vehicle, and spending time with his and Laura’s dogs, Beau and Luna.
On April 21, 2007, Danny married the love of his life, Laura Conkey, in Gillette, Wyoming. In 2014, they moved to Shawano, Wisconsin, where life by the lake quickly became their favorite place on earth. Shawano wasn't just where they lived—it was home.
Laura’s passing in 2023 left a piece of Danny’s heart missing. Though life was never the same without her, he carried her love with him every day. Danny returned to Wyoming to be near his son Tyler, who was battling cancer. Losing Tyler earlier this year was a heartbreak no parent should ever have to endure. Still, Danny held onto one dream: to return to Shawano, where so many of his happiest memories with Laura were made and where his heart always felt at home.
Danny never met a stranger. He believed there was "a friend at every bar," and somehow, wherever he went, that always seemed to be true. People were drawn to his kind heart, gentle spirit, and ability to make anyone feel like family. If you were lucky enough to know him, you probably heard him say, "Love you, mean it." He never missed an opportunity to let people know they mattered. His grandchildren brought him endless pride and joy, and being "Grandpa" was one of the roles he treasured most.
Danny also had a lifelong love of old cars and trucks. At the time of his passing, he was working on his latest project—a 1977 Ford F-250 "Tall Boy." He dreamed of restoring it in memory of Tyler and Laura. Though he didn't get to finish it, his grandson intends to pick up where he left off.
Danny is survived by his children, Scott Voyles and Miranda Voyles (Ryan Bailey); daughter-in-law Marilyn Voyles; his beloved grandchildren, Oakley Voyles, Chevelle Voyles, Harleigh Voyles, Stetson Ottema, and Mason Ottema; his sisters, Bonnie Hinkle (Leroy Hinkle) and Cajean Drake (Les Drake); along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who became family.
He was preceded in death by his wife and soulmate, Laura Voyles; his son, Tyler Voyles; his mother, Ruth Voyles; his mother-in-law, Bobbi Conkey; his cousin, Amber Hinkle, and his sisters, Helen Vianne and Mary.
Danny leaves behind a life defined by kindness, compassion, loyalty, and love. Every old truck, every familiar song, and every mile of open highway will carry a piece of his spirit.
And somewhere, we like to believe, Danny is finally back home—by the lake with Laura, Tyler close beside him, making new friends, telling old stories, and reminding everyone he meets one last time:
"Love you, mean it."
