Charles (Charlie) Edward Fahlgren

Charles "Charlie" Fahlgren, 63, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at his home in Gillette, Wyoming. He was born March 25, 1963, in Big Timber, Montana, to Claude Fahlgren and Virginia (Harper) RathKamp; the son of a ranching family, a heritage that would shape every chapter of his life. Charlie grew up in Lodge Grass, Montana, where he graduated from high school before going on to earn a degree in Diesel Mechanics from MSU Northern. True to his roots, he spent formative years working on the Padlock Ranch and later at various mining operations across Nevada and Wyoming. It was at North Antelope Rochelle Mine (NARM) that he met the woman who would become his partner in everything; Gwen Frew. The two were married in Gillette in 2012, and together they built a life defined by hard work, wide open land, and a deep love for one another. Charlie and Gwen shared a passion for raising Black Angus bulls, a pursuit tied closely to his family's Pass Creek Angus Ranch in Wyola, Montana. The herd he cultivated over the years was a source of quiet, genuine pride — a living testament to his patience, skill, and ranching soul. Beyond the ranch, Charlie gave generously of himself to his community. He served as a long-time first responder with the Campbell County Fire Department, and was a dedicated member of the SMET team at NARM; accomplishments he held with great pride. His commitment to 4-H reflected his belief in passing along values of responsibility and integrity to the next generation. Hunting, too, was a beloved constant out in the field, Charlie was always in his element. Eighteen years ago, Charlie was diagnosed with cancer. What followed was a fight that those who loved him will never forget; fierce, determined, and carried with the same whole-hearted resolve he brought to everything in his life. He fought as though winning were the only option. Though cancer ultimately claimed him, it never once diminished who he was. His strength in those years was its own kind of victory. Charlie Fahlgren was many things: a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a tireless worker, and a loyal friend. He had a dry wit that caught you off guard and a laugh that stayed with you. He was, by every account, the kind of man who did nothing halfway; whether he was building a herd, fighting a fire, or fighting for his life. He is survived by his wife, Gwen Fahlgren; his children, David (Sara) Cooley, Scott Fahlgren, and Jessie (Taylor) Fox; stepchildren, Rob (Kara) Young and Hunter Young; and grandchildren Ryder, Ren, Rhett, Rally, Caden, Hailey, Cole, Bailey, Madley, and Aurora. He is also survived by his mother; Virginia RathKamp; siblings, Jon (Sandy) Wilkerson, Kitty (Tom) Brown, Todd RathKamp, Kurt RathKamp and Lisa Rathcamp; and his nieces and nephews, Shannon (Nuco) Leija, Justin (Sharon) Wilkerson, Jennifer (Blaine) Mitchell, Cassie, Kayla, Lacey, and Gage. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Fahlgren, and his sister, Mickey Fahlgren. Services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Gillette Memorial Chapel, with Pastor CJ Ward officiating. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gillette Memorial Chapel.
