Gillette

Memorial service for Frank Gonzales will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 11, 2026 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with Father Pat Quinn officiating. Frank “Mercy” Gonzales passed away on June 5, 2026 in Gillette, WY surrounded by the love of his kids. Frank was born on July 11, 1955, in Murray, Utah, to Arnoldo Gonzales and Nina Martinez. As a young boy Frank attended Catholic school and then was proud to be a Husky at Hillcrest High School in Midvale, Utah. He married the love of his life, Loretta Ortega Gonzales, on September 28, 1985, and together they built a family that meant everything to him. Frank spent most of his working life with Kennecott, working in the mines of both Utah and Wyoming. He was proud of the work he did and the people he worked alongside throughout the years. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing. Whether out fishing or just sitting around, Frank always had a story up his sleeve-and we all heard our favorites more than once, but we’d listen every time. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching westerns, doing leatherwork, and making rosaries. More than anything, he loved being around family. Frank’s outgoing nature meant he never met a stranger-just someone he hadn’t had a chance to laugh with yet. He had a positive outlook on life, was courageous through difficult times, and wasn’t afraid to be tough when the situation called for it. He had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcome and that warmth is something we’ll carry with us. Frank’s greatest accomplishment and proudest achievement was his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his sons, Thomas (Alaina) Gonzales and Joseph Gonzales; his daughter, Michaela Gonzales; his sisters, Yvonne (Pat) Laforett, Elizabeth (Pat) Ferguson, and Josie Young; and his grandchildren, Chase Talbot-Gonzales and David Sundfor-Gonzales. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Gonzales; his parents, his brother, Michael Gonzales; his daughter-in-law Renee Sundfor, and his beloved dog, Bandit. Frank will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel 210 West 5th Street, Gillette, WY 82716. Condolences may also be expressed at www.gillettememorialchapel.com
