Alice Marie (Flint) Anderson November 10, 1940 - October 26, 2026, Gillette

Alice Marie (Flint) Anderson, age 85, passed away peacefully at Primrose Retirement Community on October 26, 2026. She was a woman of remarkable resilience, a proud rancher at heart, and an adventurous soul who traveled the world.

Alice was born on November 10, 1940, to Richard E. and Helen Marie (Ohman) Flint at 5th and Ross Ave. in Gillette, Wyoming. Her birth came with a legendary family story: on the way home to their ranch north of Gillette, her father stopped to tell every neighbor that they had welcomed a baby boy named Olaf Randalph, named after her grandfathers. While it thoroughly displeased her mother—and a few neighbors missed the humor entirely—it set the stage for a life filled with character.

At just 7 years old, Alice faced severe health challenges, spending four months in a Hot Springs, South Dakota hospital fighting polio. Later diagnosed with Perthes bone disease, she spent 18 months on crutches, establishing a lifelong spirit of determination.

Her early education took place in a one-room schoolhouse near the family ranch. She went on to attend Campbell County High School. She bought her prized pink 1957 Chrysler Saratoga which had only one speed - fast, which she proudly continued to drive through her college years. Alice attended Hastings College in Nebraska and graduated from the C.E. School of Commerce in Omaha with a dictaphone stenographer certificate. Later, she took night classes in accounting to advance her career at Carter Mining Company.

In 1961, Alice married Eugene Anderson. Initially they lived near Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for 20 months while Eugene served in the military, before returning to the ranch north of Gillette to raise their family. Later they later divorced. The ranch always remained Alice's true home. She poured her time into her community as a member of the Campbell County Cow-Belles and as a 4-H leader, teaching sewing and leatherwork and later supporting all three of her boys in a variety of 4-H programs. To supplement the ranch income, she worked for Carter Mining/Peabody Coal until her retirement.

Alice spent over 30 years enjoying her retirement by wintering in Mesa, Arizona. There, she discovered a deep passion for shuffleboard, competing regionally and traveling as far as California and Canada for tournaments. An avid traveler, Alice explored over 20 countries, with Israel and Africa being her favorites. Yet, ranch life was always her first love; she spent summers actively helping on the ranch until a broken leg and hip slowed her down.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her baby sister Karen Jean, and Ester K. Ohman, the only grandparent she had the privilege of knowing.

Alice’s memory lives on through her three sons, Andy (Melissa) of Vermont, Lysle (Trena) of Gillette, and Dwayne (Buddi) of Weston; her five beloved grandchildren; and her two cherished great-grandchildren.
