Adain “Marty” Fabian Martin Sr., 74, of Gillette, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, in Black Canyon City, Arizona.
A celebration of life honoring Marty begins at 5 p.m. Friday, May 16 at the American Legion in Gillette.
He was born Aug. 19, 1950, in Brent's Cove, Newfoundland, to Patrick and Mary Martin and was one of 14 siblings eight brothers and five sisters. His childhood in Brent’s Cove was filled with joyful moments playing hockey, pool, and Cowboys and Indians with his friends memories he later cherished and shared with his grandchildren.
In the summer of 1977, Marty set out on a journey that led him across the United States, ultimately bringing him to Gillette, where fate introduced him to the love of his life, Lillian “Lil” Martin at the Ketch Pen Bar & Grill. The two married June 24, 1978, and they welcomed their son, Adain “JR” Martin in March 1979.
Marty dedicated his career to welding (excelling in it) and teaching, and later became a welding inspector. Passionate about his craft, he found joy in mentoring others and sharing his expertise.
After 44 years in Wyoming, Marty and Lillian embraced retirement as snowbirds, settling in Black Canyon City, where they spent their days riding side-by-sides, playing cards, and enjoying the company of dear friends.
Back home in Wyoming, Marty and Lil loved camping, watching their grandchildren's sporting events, and cherishing time with family. Their shared passion for traveling led them on many adventures, both near and far. Marty loved hunting, fishing, playing poker, and — perhaps most of all — telling stories that never failed to make others laugh. His warmth, humor, and deep love for his family made him a cherished father and grandfather.
Marty was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sisters, Elizabeth, Rose (Gerry), and Ethel; and his brothers, Patrick and Leslie.
He is survived by sisters, Maude (Bob) and Jacinta (Bob); brothers, Ben, Roy (Tina), Gerald, Joseph (Phyllis), Raymond, and Paul (Mary Lou); special sister-in-law, Pauline; son, JR (Stacey) Martin; stepchildren, Patrick (Bobbi) Kiser and Julie (Dan) Huston; along with his beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends.
His presence, laughter, and legacy will be forever cherished.
