Funeral service for Clarence F. ?Smiley? VanVleet will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2006 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home with Ken Nealeigh of the Church of Christ will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #42. Interment will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette. Visitation will be held from 3:00 ? 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home. Clarence Fay VanVleet, age 81, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away on Friday, June 23, 2006 at his home of natural causes.Clarence was born on October 30, 1924 the son of George and Hallie (Lieberknecht) VanVleet in Kanona, Kansas. He spent his younger years growing up on a farm where he was raised and educated. Clarence joined the United States Marine Corp in 1944 where he served his country proudly. Upon returning to Kansas he met and married Helen Darrah in 1949. After Clarence worked in the oil field for 17 years he began working as a carpenter in Gillette, Wyoming for 23 years retiring in 1990, but still worked part time for Enterprise. When his oldest daughter moved to Arizona he and Helen spent their winters there. Clarence?s church and his family were his life. He was a member of the Church of Christ for 34 years.Clarence is survived by his daughters: Linda (Lewis) Reed of Mesa, Arizona and Beverly (Ervin) Schroeder of Casper, Wyoming, 2 sisters: Norma Jean (Bob) Jannett of Lakewood Colorado and Ila May (Dean) Skinner of Arlington Texas, 2 brothers: Bill (Norma May) VanVleet of Forsyth, Missouri, and Elmer (Jenny) VanVleet of Denver, Colorado, 4 grandchildren: Eric (Michelle) Reed of Woodbridge, Virginia, Amy (Jon) Frazey of San Diego, California, Evan Schroeder, Stephanie Schroeder, both of Casper, Wyoming, and 1 great grandson, Morgan Reed of Woodbridge, Virginia.He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen and 2 brothers: Claude and Albert VanVleet.Memorials and condolences may be sent in Clarence?s name to Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home 210 W. 5th Street Gillette, Wyoming 82716 or via the internet at www.stevensonandsons.com.
