Funeral services for Tommy Dean Johnson, 52, of Wright, Wyoming will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2006 at the Wright Town Hall with Chaplain Bob Rudichar officiating. A visitation will be held from 3-7 on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Tommy Johnson died Monday, July 24, 2006 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family.Tommy Dean Johnson was born June 28, 1954 in Cheyenne, Wyoming the son of Jerald and Phyllis (Frank) Johnson. He was raised in Cheyenne and graduated from Cheyenne East in 1972. On December 31, 1974 Tommy married Candy Clarke in Cheyenne, Wyoming. In 1975 the family moved to Medicine Bow where Tommy worked for Resource Coal until the company closed in 1985. They then moved to Wright in 1985 where Tommy worked for Powder River Coal until taking disability in 2004. Tommy was proud of the fact that he had dumped the first load of coal into the Rochelle mine hopper. However, he was never more proud of anything than he was of his family. In 1999 he was diagnosed with cancer and his family was his strength and he was theirs. Tommy loved spending time with his grandchildren telling stories, giving them rides on his lawnmower and having sleepovers. He especially enjoyed their time together in the last years of his battle with cancer. Tommy also enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, and hunting. He was President of Medicine Bow Jaycees, Commander of the Medicine Bow American Legion and a member of the Eagles for twenty years. Tommy will be remembered as a wonderful husband, Daddy and Papa.He will greatly be missed by his wife of thirty-one years, Candy, 1 son, Steven Dean (Crystal) Johnson of Gillette, Wyoming, 1 daughter, Stacy Danean (Jamey) Cowley of Morganville, Kansas, his mother, Phyllis Johnson, 1 sister, Kathy (Jack) Sipe and 1 uncle, Don Frank, all of Cheyenne, Wyoming. He will also be missed by his 7 grandchildren: Tommy, Kayte, Jaron and Tabitha Cowley and Deric, Dylen and Deyton Johnson.Tommy was preceded in death by his father, 1 brother, Charles Johnson, maternal and paternal grandparents and 1 uncle, Vernon Frank.Memorials and condolences may be sent in Tommy?s name in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home 210 W. 5th St. Gillette, Wyoming 82716 or via the internet at www.stevensonandsons.com
