Mass of Christian Burial for Bruce Nehl of Gillette, Wyoming will be 2:00 pm, Friday, August 18, 2006 at St. Matthew?s Catholic Church in Gillette with Father Cliff Jacobson celebrating. Rite of committal will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette. We?ll be escorting Bruce on his last cruise, so bring your best ride. Visitation will be from 3:00-6:30 pm on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home with a vigil / prayer service following at 6:30 pm.Bruce, age 51, died on August 11, 2006 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming after complications from heart surgery.Bruce Byron Nehl was born on October 20, 1954 in McLaughlin, South Dakota the son of John and Jean (Davitt) Nehl. Bruce lived in McIntosh, South Dakota until 1961 when the family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota. Bruce graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1973. He attended South Dakota State University in Brookings for two years. After college, Bruce joined his brothers, Doyle and Jeff in the Overhead Door business. This would be their life long pursuit to build a strong successful family business. On November 19, 1977, Bruce married Nancy Bennett in Rapid City. In 1978, when the family business branched out to Gillette, Wyoming, Bruce was chosen to be the manager. For the next 25 years they worked together and with Bruce?s hard work and likeable personality, he built the Gillette operation into one of the best door companies in the region. He was especially proud of leaving his partnership with his brothers and becoming a sole proprietor in 2004. He wanted to continue his own family operation with Nancy and his son Kayce and daughter Robynn. He enjoyed hunting and shooting with his family and friends. Bruce was involved in different motorsports over the years in Gillette holding various offices for the Gillette Odyssey Club, the Gillette Stock Car Association and the Thunder Basin Corvette Club. He liked watching stockcar races, especially the drivers he sponsored. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and going to the races when he had the chance. He liked driving the vehicles he collected throughout the years. Bruce enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family and was the winner more often than not.He is survived by his wife Nancy of 28 years; son, Kayce, and daughter, Robynn all of Gillette; 2 brothers: Doyle Nehl and his wife Karen and Jeff Nehl and his wife Maria and their children Jeremy, Leah and Kayleigh Nehl all of Rapid City, South Dakota.Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.A memorial has been established for Research to Prevent Blindness.Memorials and condolences may be sent in Bruce?s name to Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home 210 W. 5th Street, Gillette, Wyoming or via the internet at www.stevensonwilson.com.
