Funeral services for Albert (Bert) Yount, age 82, of Gillette, Wyoming will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Matthews of the Church of Christ of Casper, Wyoming officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm on Friday, November 17, 2006 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home. Military honors will be provided by the Thunderbasin Centennial VFW Post #7756 and the American Legion Post # 42 of Gillette, Wyoming. Bert died at his home in Gillette, Wyoming with his loving wife of 59 years and his daughters by his side (family) on Monday, November 13, 2006 from complications due to Dementia. Bert was born on a cold winter night, January 15, 1924 in Hot Springs County, Hamilton Dome, Wyoming. He was born the 5th son of Roy and Alma (Simpson) Yount. At a young age the family moved to the Bull Mountain near Roundup, Montana, where he received his education and worked in the family sawmill until he enlisted in the service in 1942. Bert wanted to go to war and fight with his older brothers, Bill and Ralph, his dad helped him to enlist at the young age of 17. He left Montana, ?Little Pee Wee? to the family because of his small size and returned ?The Montana Kid? due to his boxing abilities in the service. He went to St. Petersburg for basic training from there he was put into the Army Air Force, gunnery training at Tyndal Field, Florida, radio school at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, crew assignment and for gunnery and bomb practice in Casper, Wyoming. Bert continued with bomb training at McCook, Nebraska then on to Topeka, Kansas for overseas assignment. Flying a new B-24 Liberator Bomber with the 567th Bomb Squadron, 389th Bomb Group to England where he was assigned to an airbase at Norwich, England. They flew 30 missions over Europe upon completing the missions they returned to Camp Kilner, New Jersey. During his service he was awarded several air medals and three Oak Clusters which are a good conduct medal. He was discharged at Ft. Douglas, Utah. Upon returning to civilian life he joined his family in Sandpoint, Idaho at the Yount Sawmill. Shortly after returning he met and married Peggie Montgomery on April 28, 1947, of Elmira, Idaho. They have enjoyed 59 wonderful years of marriage and many happy memories. Bert returned to Hamilton Dome with his new family, where he began his career in the oil field. He worked for Empire Oil until 1969 when the company sold out and reorganized. At that time they moved to Gillette, Wyoming where he worked for Home Petroleum, Davis Oil, until he retired in 1985. Bert?s favorite time was spent with the grandchildren, taking them out to see the oilfields where he spent his time working and telling them about the putt-putts, or fishing in the near by lakes and creeks. It was on these trips that he sang his favorite song, ?Wish Ka Bibble and Wish Ka Woo? until all four granddaughters knew it by heart. They couldn?t leave home before he cooked them his favorite breakfast. Bert and Peggy spent many years bowling and attending the national conventions each year. Retirement for Bert was spent with his family and his dogs, going to Deadwood, yard work, fishing, watching sports baseball and football cheering on his favorite team. In his secret dream he was once a Robin Yount. Bert was a life time member of the VFW, and proud to have served his country during the war. He is survived by his wife, Peggie; daughters: Terri (Dean) Humphries of Wright, Wyoming and Toni (Brad) Klein of Story, Wyoming; four granddaughters:Toyja (Doug) Rigdon Omaha, Nebraska, Mindy (Jerry) Brincefield of Gillette, Wyoming; Paula (Ruben)Abril of Brighton, Colorado and Jamie Jenkins of Aurora, Colorado; two great grandsons: Matthew and Daniel; two great granddaughters: Jessica and Adacia, one unborn grandson due to join the family in March; two sisters: Helen (Art) Romagno of Taft, California and Hazel (Harold) Carroll of Casper, Wyoming; several nieces and nephews, his favorite dogs, Willie and Tramper. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Alma, 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Memorials may be made in Bert?s name to the Alzheimer?s Association.
