Funeral services for Walter Mueller, of Gillette will be held 9:00 am, Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Sonja Brucklacher officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Walt Mueller, 77, died at his home Saturday morning, December 9, from complications related to a recent stroke. Mr. Mueller was born on March 3, 1929 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Walter & Lucy (Hodson) Mueller. The family lived in South Bend, Indiana until 1945 when they moved to Los Gatos, California. He served in the army for 2 years following high school graduation and was part of the occupational forces in Japan. After receiving an honorable discharge he resumed his education at San Jose State University, where he received his BS and MS degrees.In 1952 Mr. Mueller married Patricia Black from Stockton, California. Together with their family they lived in Likely and Hollister, California before moving to Gillette in 1969. Mr. Mueller worked for the Campbell County School District as Associate Superintendent for Special Programs until his retirement in 1984. Both he and Pat were very active in the community. Mr. Mueller participated on numerous committees and boards throughout his career and following retirement. From 1986 to 1988 he served as the Chairman of the Campbell County Hospital Board.Survivors include his son Steve Mueller, wife Rita and their children Jackson, Acacia, Sam, Eva, & Weston, of Gillette; daughter Margy Sammons, husband Bill and their children Olivia & Anna, of Wright; daughter Terry Mueller of Gillette; brother John, wife Phyllis and their children Gretchen, Bridget and families. Mr. Mueller was preceded in death by his son Doug in 1977, his wife Pat in 1988, and companion Doris Wagensen in 2005.Memorials in Walt?s name are suggested to benefit the Rockpile Museum in Gillette.
