Graveside services for John T. Meade, age 78, of Gillette, Wyoming will be held at Mt Pisgah Cemetery, Gillette on Thursday, December 14. Mr. Brad Johnson of the Church of Christ will officiate. Family and friends will gather at Stevenson Wilson Funeral Home at 1 pm for the procession to the cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion, Post 42 of Gillette. Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home.John passed away at his home south of Gillette on Monday, December 11, 2006 after a long illness. He was born in Wellington, CO to Reginald and Alice (Mortensen) Meads on May 25, 1928. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1945 and served in post war Japan. After his discharge, he met and married Delores Clemetson of Coeur d?Alene, ID. Together they had five children. John worked throughout his life building roads and highways. He started as an oilier and eventually operated all types of heavy equipment. His work took him and his family all over the west and included roads in Vietnam and the Marshal Islands. In 1990 he retired only to soon go back to work as a maintenance man. In 1999 health issues forced a second retirement. John loved to tell stories to anyone who would listen. He loved the adventure of flying small airplanes and driving stock cars. He was constantly on the go.John is survived by his wife of 56 years, his five children, Eldon (Kathy) Meade of Spokane, Washington; Debra (Doug) Hardrath of Toolle, Utah; Rodney (Rita) Meade of Newberg, Oregon; Randall (Sandy) Meade of Newberg, Oregon; and Lyndon (Jessica) Meade of Gillette; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one brother, Alfred Meads of Nez Perce, Idaho; two sisters: Ethel Drapeau of Coeur d?Alene, Idaho and Wilma Carter of Eugene, Oregon and many nieces and nephews.Memorials may be made to Campbell County Healthcare Foundation to benefit hospice.
