Mass of the Christian burial for Juanita McDermott will be at 9 a.m. Friday February 13, 2009 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Gillette, Wyoming with Father Philip Vaske as Celebrant. Rite of committal will follow at 1p.m. at the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis South Dakota. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009. A vigil/rosary service will follow at 7 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home. Juanita McDermott age 63, passed away Monday, February 9 2009 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Juanita was born September 16, 1945 in El Pas, Texas the daughter of Jose A. and Carlota (Juarez) Yepez. She attended school in El Paso, TX and graduated in 1962. She moved to Clarksville, TN where she met Robert McDermott. The couple was married on July 16, 1965. After his discharge from the US Army in 1966 they moved to Newell, South Dakota. While in Newell, Juanita was active as a member of the Newell Golf Course, bowling league, and also qualified for the SD State pool tournament numerous times. During this time she was a full-time housewife and mother and had 3 children, Jim, Pat, and Michelle. She was also an active member of St Marys Church and the PTA. Bob and Juanita moved to Gillette Wyoming in 1985 where she volunteered at the Soup Kitchen regularly. She worked at Pioneer Manor for over 20 years where she met a lot of long time friends. She enjoyed working there until she got became ill. Juanita is survived by her husband, Robert McDermott of Gillette, Wyoming; two sons, James and Patrick McDermott both of Spearfish, SD; one daughter Michelle McDermott of Gillette, Wyoming; brothers, Jose Yepez of Richton, MS; Alonso Yepez, Ramond Yepez, and Daniel Yepez all of El Paso, TX; sister, Maria Luisa Holland of Phoenix, AZ; Maria Guadalupe Morales of El Paso, TX; Elena Compos of Austin TX; and grandchildren Alex and Dylan McDermott . She was preceded in death by her mother and father A memorial has been established to benefit the Soup Kitchen and donations may be sent in care of the Walker Funeral Home, 410 Medical Arts Court Gillette Wyoming 82716.
